How to Shift Your Identity
When Your Life Isn’t Changing
Everyone talks about "How to Shift Your Identity," becoming the best version of yourself, changing your self-concept, and creating a new identity, but it's much easier to believe you've changed when everything is going well. The real challenge begins when your life still looks exactly the same. Maybe you're trying to become financially successful while struggling with money. Maybe you're trying to think like a completely different person while your current circumstances continually remind you of where you are. That's when learning how to shift your identity becomes more than a motivational idea.
One of the biggest things I've learned about How to Shift Your Identity is that your current concept of self doesn't only show up in what you consciously say about yourself. It can show up in what you do when you're under pressure. How do you respond when money gets tight? What happens when something goes wrong? Do you immediately work harder, panic, sacrifice everything you enjoy, stop spending money, abandon your normal routine, or desperately start trying different techniques to make the problem disappear? Those responses can tell you much more about the identity you're operating from than simply declaring that you're a new person.
That's what I break down in this video. Using financial trouble as a real-life example, I walk through how to shift your identity, how your current behaviors can keep reinforcing the old version of you, and what it actually means to begin living from a different concept of self while your external circumstances haven't caught up yet. Most importantly, we'll look at a question that can expose your identity very quickly: When life gives you a problem, which version of you responds to it?
