What is Goal Shelving, and why does it matter when you’re trying to manifest a major change in your life? We often think of goals as either active or abandoned: you’re either pursuing something or you’ve given up on it. But psychology gives us a more interesting possibility. A goal can remain psychologically important even after you’ve stopped actively pursuing it. You haven’t necessarily rejected the goal—you’ve placed it on the shelf.
This becomes particularly interesting when Goal Shelving is viewed through manifestation, identity, self-concept, and consciousness. You can still want the money, relationship, business, lifestyle, or dream life while your everyday behavior begins organizing itself around something else. The goal remains part of what you say you want, but it may no longer be part of the life you’re actively constructing. That’s where psychology and manifestation begin to collide.
