Living in Thailand as a Foreigner
Why Some Never Thrive
Most foreigners don't move to Thailand because they want a worse life.
They come because they believe something can be better. Maybe they want more freedom. Maybe they're tired of spending most of their income just to survive back home. Some want to retire somewhere warm, some want a completely different lifestyle, and others simply reach a point where they're ready to start over.
That's part of what makes living in Thailand as a foreigner so attractive. Thailand can give you opportunities to live differently that simply weren't available to you before. Current guides aimed at foreigners continue to emphasize affordability, lifestyle, housing, climate, and quality of life as major reasons people consider moving here.
But there is something I've noticed after living here for years.
Changing countries doesn't automatically mean you've changed your life.
I've watched foreigners come to Thailand excited about what their new life could become, only to slowly settle into patterns that don't move them forward at all. And some of those patterns are difficult to recognize because, in the beginning, they don't necessarily look like problems.
Some actually look like freedom.
That's where I think a lot of foreigners get caught.
